Right then. Who loves gold and blue? Yep, I thought as much. Most of you then. Well if that’s the case you’re going to adore Emma & Dean’s gorgeous wedding day!

Incidentally, Emma was very familiar with her wedding venue having driven past during the renovations. The bride also had an eye for detail and used The Spinnakers decor to inspire their day from the gold damask favour boxes to the unique gold tree centrepieces.

One of the things I love most about this special day is how elegant all the details where.

The Bride tells her story…

The Proposal

As it was we were due to be going away on an amazing holiday driving down the coast of California. The weather on the Island at the time was your typical British end of summer and we were both counting down the days left at work before we set off.  One day, on a Monday of all days, Dean called me after work and sounded despondent and somewhat miserable. I rushed around to see him to make sure it was okay and find out what was the matter. When I arrived he looked at me with worry and sadness in his eyes. He turned to me and said, “I’m really not sure I want to go on holiday with my girlfriend anymore…”

Well, you can imagine what was running through my mind at that moment. A painstaking few seconds later he smiled at me, his eyes alight and said: “I would much rather go away with my Fiancée…” And pulled the ring out as if from nowhere.

My jaw fell to the floor with sheer shock and surprise. Of course, my answer was YES!

The Church

Our first home together was in the village of Godshill and we could see All Saints Church tower from our front windows and could always hear the church bells ringing so it was always going to be that church.

The Reception

I used to drive past The Spinnaker every so often for work and remember seeing the renovations going on. When it was finished the building looked so lovely from the outside, especially with the beautiful stained glass window, I was always curious to see inside. When we began planning our big day I arranged a meeting there instantly and fell in love with it as soon as we walked in. Ashleigh was so warm and welcoming, they had just recently launched the venue for weddings and so we ended up being one of the first to book. The restaurant space is stunning with its crystal chandelier, walled garden and fabulous interior design, it provided the perfect setting for our big day.

Ashleigh did such a fabulous job pulling all of the details together on the day and was so lovely to work with.

Our Wedding Breakfast involved a 3-course meal and a drinks reception. The food on the day was absolutely delicious with a Creme Brûlée to die for. The menu choices were brilliant offering something for all budgets and taste buds. We had such a lovely time tasting our menu as well.

Our Inspiration for the day

Our inspiration actually came from the beautiful decor at The Spinnaker. This inspired everything from the gold tones in our colour scheme to the damask patterns seen in our invitations, cake and favours. When we began planning the day we both wanted to create a traditional, classic wedding that was simply about the two of us bringing our families together to celebrate with us as we took this amazing step towards our future.

2017 marked eight years together, during which we had faced some very difficult and challenging times together. It was therefor so important to us that the day be a celebration, a day filled with laughter and love.

Our Photographer

Emma Watts was on the very top of our list when we began planning our day. Being an extremely popular photographer we did not want to miss the opportunity to book her for our special day. We met Emma at my Sister and Brother In Law’s wedding as they had booked her for their special day. She had done such a wonderful job for them and was such a lovely addition to their day we knew there was no one else we would rather have as our photographer.

Emma is beyond lovely to work with and puts you at ease immediately, which was brilliant for us as we were certainly not used to being in front of a camera. She really is so much more than a photographer as she goes above and beyond to make sure the day all runs to plan. Her car is filled with anything and everything you may need on the day, items she has accumulated from her years of experience with weddings. We knew we didn’t have to worry about a thing with Emma there.

Emma took us down to the Bembridge lifeboat and we had some lovely photographs taken on the beach there. It was beautiful and only a 2-minute drive from The Spinnaker. Her photographs are stunning. She captured every emotion we felt on the day. Every time we look back through the photographs we are immediately transported back to the day.

Wedding Transportation

As we were aiming to create a traditional, classic day we knew we were looking for a car that embodied that. We found a vintage Rolls Royce from  Isle of Wight Wedding Cars in a classic cream and black. She was perfect. She turned 80 that year and was beautiful. A real bonus was how lovely the owners were. They were a real joy to talk to and extremely organised with a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C route to the church just in case, several umbrellas on hand, mints, water and some lovely champagne for the journey to the reception venue. I would highly recommend them.

Table decor and Invites

Mandi from Finishing Touches did such a wonderful job. She really went out of her way to ensure we got we wanted for the day. We had a somewhat obscure picture of what we wanted for our centrepieces but this didn’t phase her at all and she worked tirelessly to find us what we were looking for. The most beautiful gold trees were the perfect addition to our vision of the day and The Stern room at The Spinnaker. We also arranged all our invitations  & stationary from Mandi and they really encompassed the theme of the day, the damask pattern with the blue and gold scheme. Mandi & Ashleigh worked well together to put together the room and it was just Perfect!

The Wedding Cake

Alison from Centrepiece Cake Designs is a pure master in her field. The cake looked stunning and tasted as beautiful as it looked. We both love our sweet treats so the cake was very important to us and it most certainly did not disappoint.

The Bridal Party

I was so happy when I found the bridesmaid dresses, it was as if they were designed for our wedding. They were from a site called Chi Chi London. They have so many beautiful and unique dresses on there and really very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend to any upcoming brides to have a look there. They were even better than I thought when they arrived and my cousin Sam, Bridesmaid and my Sister Claire, Maid of Honour loved them.

I am very lucky to have an extremely talented hairdresser/stylist for a Sister. As my Maid of Honour, I could not have coped without her through the whole experience. She did such a wonderful job creating my wedding hair, I had so many compliments and felt like a princess. She runs her own Salon, alongside her business partner Bel (who kindly offered to do the Bridesmaids’ hair) called Hair and Graces, in Wootton.

My dress was a Maggie Sottero design. I tried on so many dresses at Gems Bridalwear in Newport. They have a great variety to choose from and the ladies in there are so lovely and helpful. I knew the second I tried it on that it was the one, even before I saw myself in the mirror. You really do get a feeling, a wonderful feeling when you find the one. I also got a little surprise on the morning of our wedding day a stunning pearl necklace from Isle of Wight Pearl from my groom. Just a beautiful addition to my wedding dress.

The Groom, his Best Man, Ushers and the Father of the Bride and Father of the Groom all wore suits hired from Osbournes in Ryde. They offered a great service and the suits looked fab on the day.

Nic from The Floral Boutique in Ryde is so lovely to work with. When I first met with her I was so vague about what I was looking for and in all honesty, knew very little about which flowers would work best. I only knew at that stage we wanted roses incorporated and the colour scheme. She was brilliant, she had so many ideas. I absolutely loved my bouquet, it went beyond my expectations and lasted well beyond the big day.

We have both always found magic and illusions fascinating to watch and so when we saw you could hire an illusionist from Shuffles Events we were really excited. He certainly did not disappoint either and had us and all of our guests in awe of his illusions. He was a fabulous addition to the day. Shuffles Events were so easy to work with as well and have loads of unique options for hire on their website.

When asked to pick out our highlights of the day, we simply couldn’t pinpoint one single moment. We had such an amazing day, we both didn’t stop smiling or laughing the entire time. Every element of the day had come together so well and all of the suppliers we had worked with had done such an incredible job.

Our advice to anyone planning their big day is simply to enjoy it and remember why you are doing it. It can be so easy to get caught up in the planning you can forget what the day is truly about. Trust your suppliers as they will do a wonderful job. And relax and enjoy the day. The day whizzes by so incredibly fast just make sure that you take the time to stand back and absorb it.
