Fine dining has finally come to the chic village of Bembridge,

Brothers Russell and Mike Carley who were born in Cowes, took over as co-directors of The Spinnaker’s bar and restaurants at the end of January 2017. Using the beautiful Stern Room towards the back of the venue already known for wedding’s and private functions, lends itself as the perfect setting for head chef Mike to showcase his exquisite presentation and flavour combinations. The Stern Room is for those looking for something extra special with many of the dishes using local produce. Bembridge is an up and coming village full of beautiful boutique shops and award winning restaurants, Bembridge windmill, the newly refurbished Life Boat Station and the best rock pools on island (Well we like to think so anyway).

The finishing touches of this unique restaurant with its flickering chandelier has the perfect balance for its guests providing a calming ambiance using candle light, greenery and neutral decor. The tables have been laid out to perfection with a cute little cacti pot and sky blue water glasses along with a patio garden for those warm summer evenings.

Mike’s career as a professional chef has taken him from the Island to a two AA-rosette restaurant in Bournemouth, an a la carte restaurant in Spain, the Isles of Scilly and most recently, the head chef at the award-winning New Inn in Shalfleet along with the newly re-opened Globe in Cowes. Now joint director of The Carley Corporation Ltd T/A, The Spinnaker and Stern Room Mike has carefully created a menu with highly accomplished dishes which are as beautiful to look at as they are tasty.

I had the delight of trying a few of the dishes and I must say that the goats cheese parfait with a peach puree, sesame seed tuile and hazelnut crumb is just delicious. For the main event, I went with the venison which was perfectly pink served with Isle of Wight wild mushrooms and blackberry jus followed by a heavenly chocolate brownie, with burnt white chocolate, pistachio cream and butterscotch sauce. Every mouthful was just of this world and with a menu like that you will be wanting to come back again even more so when the menu changes to reflect the season produce available from our garden Isle.
